20 Years of Commercial Interiors
It was June 2003 when we took the giant leap of starting our own business. I still remember that feeling today, fear and excitement intertwined. With 2 small children and a mortgage to pay it is hard to say which was the stronger. With full support from my wife we strode out into the world of commerce.
I remember to this day, our first order was for a single box of ceiling tiles, then a small decorating project, followed by some carpentry. The tidal wave hit with our fourth order, the complete remodelling and refurbishment of the then busy Plymouth City Airport check in lounge along with washroom facilities and circulation areas.
Over the following 5 years we flew (excuse the pun), going from strength to strength until we slammed headlong into the crash of 2008. It was as if the phones had been disconnected when the news of the Lehman Brothers collapse broke in September of that year. It wasn’t until 2011 that things truly felt like they had returned to normality and we had the confidence to move to larger self contained premises.
In 2015 Karris Ltd relocated again to larger premises as the emphasis on supply of furniture grew. This gave us the ability to provide a facility to showcase some of our suppliers products to prospective clients in a working showroom environment.
March 24th 2020 will remain the most memorable day of my business life, that was the day the world stopped. It was also the day the standard model for the work environment shifted inexorably. There were always the Googles of the world but as we emerged from the work from home requirement, the new standard model has taken shape as a significantly more creative space. Gone are the swathes of bench desks, making way for multi level working, hot desking, video conference areas and relaxing staff breakouts.
Karris may only be 20 years old, but the change we have seen in this time has been incredible. Karris remains a family run business and as such we understand what your business means to you. We have supported business at every level over the years, from new start ups all the way to multinational corporations. Each one truly unique in their vision, but common in their goal, to stand out from the crowd.
